Nimishambha Temple is located on the banks of Kaveri River in Srirangapatna. This is an immensely popular temple among devotees.

Belief is that the goddess bless the devotee at once (hence the name) to remove the obstructs he/she is facing. People from far flung places visit Nimishambha Temple in hope of solving problems. According to Mythology Goodness Nimishambha is considered as an incarnation of Goddess Parvathi, the consort of Lord Shiva.

The original shine is at least 500 years old. Later portions were added in subsequent periods.

One of the famous Maharajas of Mysore, Krishnaraja Wodeyar III (1799-1868) who accented to the throne after fall of Tipu Sultan (see History of Srirangapatna) is attributed for Nimishamba  temple's patronage during his regime.

Right next to the Nimishambha Temple is a beautiful Ghat where the north branch of Kaveri flows in a majestic expanse. You'll see the bamboo wick made coracles that ferries , and some time fun ride near the ghat.

Around Nimishambha Temple :

Karighatta Temple is located across the river atop the Karighatta Hills. It's a steep climb by steps or by hairpin curved road.

A little down stream from Nimishamba Ghat, Lokapavani River joins Kaveri River. Further east is Sangama, the east most tip of Srirangapatna Island where the two branches of Kaveri rejoins.  There's a trail along the riverside from Nimishamba to Samgama (2km). For reaching by road, head back the main road and continue further from the Gumbaz. The road ends at river front.

Nimishambha Temple Timings : Temple is open daylong 6.30am to 8.30pm. Note, there would be long queues esp. on special days.
