Established in 1891 as Oriental Library by the mysore king, Chamarajendra Wadiyar X, the Oriental Research Institute is a unique establishment in the country. ORI is located at the northern end of the Krishnaraja Boulevard Road near the Crawford Hall. This institute's most famous work is the translation of Kautilya's Arthashastra, an ancient Indian treatise on statecraft, economic policy and military strategy, written in Sanskrit in the 4th century BCE.
